Laser Hair
Reduction

Long-term hair reduction using professional light-based technology, carried out by a fully trained practitioner in a private, purpose-set-up treatment room.

How it works

Reduction, not removal — and we will say so

Laser hair reduction targets the pigment in the hair follicle with pulses of light, gradually reducing regrowth over a course of treatments. Most clients need six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with maintenance once or twice a year afterwards. Results vary between individuals depending on hair colour, hair thickness, skin type and hormonal factors — we will be honest with you at consultation about what to expect.

6–8Sessions in a typical course, depending on the area and your hair type
4–6Weeks between sessions, so treatment lands in the right growth phase
48hMinimum gap between your patch test and your first treatment
18+Treatments are for clients aged eighteen and over

Every client has a consultation, skin type assessment and patch test before treatment begins. The patch test is carried out at least 48 hours before your first session. Treatments are for clients aged 18 and over.

Price list

Every area, every course

A course of six is priced at five sessions. A course of eight is priced at just over six. Six is the number most people need to see a real result, which is why it is the one we recommend.

Aftercare

Looking after treated skin

You will be given written aftercare at your first appointment. The essentials:

  • No sunbeds, and no deliberate sun exposure on the treated area, for four weeks before and after each session.
  • Use SPF 50 daily on any treated area that is not covered by clothing.
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and the gym for 48 hours.
  • Skip fragranced products, exfoliants and retinoids on the area for 48 hours.
  • Shaving between sessions is fine. Do not pluck, wax, thread or epilate — those remove the follicle the laser needs to find.
  • Some redness and small bumps around the follicles are normal for a day or two.
  • Contact us straight away if you see blistering, crusting or anything that concerns you.

Common questions

Before you book

Does it hurt?

Most people describe it as a warm elastic band flick against the skin. Coarser areas and bony areas feel it more. Sessions on small areas take about fifteen minutes, so any discomfort is brief — and it tends to reduce as the hair thins across a course.

Why do I need a patch test?

To check how your skin responds before treating a whole area, and to set the right settings for your skin type. It takes minutes, and it must be done at least 48 hours before your first session so any delayed reaction has time to show.

Will it work on my hair colour?

Laser targets pigment, so it works best on dark hair. Blonde, red, grey and white hair contain little or no pigment for the laser to find, and results are limited or absent. We will tell you honestly at consultation rather than sell you a course that cannot work.

Is it permanent?

No, and anyone promising permanent removal is overselling it. Laser achieves long-term hair reduction — significantly less hair, finer and slower regrowth. Most people keep results with a top-up once or twice a year.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes — shaving is the only hair removal you should use during a course. Waxing, plucking, threading and epilating pull out the follicle, which is exactly what the laser needs to target.

What if I'm tanned, or going on holiday?

Treating recently tanned skin risks burns and pigment changes, so we leave four weeks either side of sun exposure. Plan your course around your holiday and tell us your dates at consultation so we can schedule around them.

Is anyone unsuitable?

Some medications, medical conditions, recent sun exposure and certain skin and hair types make laser unsuitable. It is also not carried out during pregnancy. All of this is assessed at your consultation, which is exactly what the consultation is for.

Terms

The small print, in plain words

  1. Treatments are available to clients aged 18 and over.
  2. A consultation and patch test are required before your first treatment. The patch test must be carried out at least 48 hours in advance.
  3. Courses are paid in full at the first session and are valid for 18 months.
  4. Courses are non-refundable, but may be transferred between areas of equal value.
  5. 24 hours' notice is required to change or cancel an appointment. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be charged.
  6. Results vary between individuals. Laser treatment achieves long-term hair reduction, not permanent removal, and a number of sessions is required.
